The Tickets & Raffle stall is the main place to buy Torridon Tickets and raffle entries. It is the only stall at the fair that accepts cash payments. Volunteers on this stall must be comfortable handling cash and using their own smartphone to process payments and record raffle entries.
The official currency of the fair, Torridon Tickets are worth 50p each and will be accepted as payment for refreshments and activities throughout the fair. We'll post a price list on the stall so customers can estimate how many tickets they're likely to need.
Refreshments stalls and most activities: Card payments and tickets accepted
Games stalls and Forest School: Tickets only
Tickets will be available in bundles of 10 or singly.
We strongly discourage the return of unused Torridon Tickets for a refund. The fair is the biggest annual fundraiser for the school, so we hope that most customers will be happy to treat unused tickets as a donation or save them to use at next year's fair. We also issue a number of complementary tickets every year.
Where customers insist on a refund, we can issue one via SumUp if we can locate their card payment in the app (typically only if they paid online in advance, they requested an email receipt, or they know the precise time they completed their payment). Alternatively we can exchange their tickets for cash. Just make a note of any cash removed from the cash box, including the amount, reason, and recipient.
Our raffle is fully digital, which means no paper flying around in the wind, no hastily scrawled names on stubs, no box of poorly mixed tickets resulting in the same person winning 5 prizes in a row.
We'll manage sales, the draw, and prize distribution all within our custom-built online tool at raffle.friendsoftorridon.org. We capture each customer's name and contact details once, and the tool automatically generates unique entry numbers and sends a confirmation email when payment is complete. We'll close sales shortly before the end of the fair, then draw truly random winners for all prizes and announce them on the main stage as the fair's grand finale. We'll also email winners with instructions to collect their prize, so they don't need to be present to win.
Online entry: To keep the queue moving quickly, encourage customers to scan the QR code posted at the stall to complete payment and enter their contact details on their own phone.
Manual entry: Volunteers can also process cash or card payments and log entries manually. First process the payment in the SumUp app. Then, on your own phone, log the customer's purchase and contact details at raffle.friendsoftorridon.org/volunteer. We'll share the PIN at the start of your shift.
Process the customer's card or cash payment in the SumUp app (review our guide).
On your own phone, open raffle.friendsoftorridon.org/volunteer and fill in the form. We need the customer's email address and phone number so that we can contact them if they win. We won't use their details for any other purpose.
Show the customer this page to confirm that their entry was recorded successfully. They'll also receive an email confirmation with their entry number(s).
Since we promote the raffle externally and sell entries in advance of the fair, our raffle is considered regulated gambling activity. We hold a Small Society Lottery Licence issued by Lewisham Council (LEW/SSL/200), which requires that we follow these rules:
Entries may not be sold by or to anyone under 16 years of age. Please do not allow minor children to sell raffle entries, and ensure that an adult's name and contact details are listed on the entry.
All entries must be sold for the same price: no multi-buy discounts. As we offer some Torridon Tickets free of cost, we cannot accept these as valid payment for the raffle.
After the fair we'll file a return to the council reporting the number of entries we sell, the value of prizes we distribute, our costs related to the raffle, and our net proceeds.
